About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Backend / Data Engineer to join our remote engineering team.

You will build and maintain backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and event-driven systems used by modern web and mobile applications.

We are looking for someone who is strong in Node.js, TypeScript, AWS, databases, and data-intensive backend systems and can work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

● Design and develop scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.

● Build REST and GraphQL APIs.

● Build data ingestion, processing, and aggregation pipelines.

● Work with real-time and event-driven systems using Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, or similar technologies.

● Design and maintain PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases.

● Deploy and operate applications on AWS.

● Manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform.

● Improve system reliability, monitoring, performance, and scalability.

● Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.

● Participate in architecture and technical design discussions.

● Use AI development tools to improve engineering productivity.

● Troubleshoot production issues and help improve existing systems.

Required Skills

● 5+ years of professional backend/software engineering experience.

● Strong Node.js and TypeScript experience.

● Strong experience designing REST APIs and backend services.

● Experience with AWS, especially Lambda, ECS/Fargate, S3, RDS/PostgreSQL.

● Strong SQL and database fundamentals.

● Experience with MongoDB.

● Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, SQS, or another messaging/streaming platform.

● Experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools.

● Experience building data-intensive or event-driven applications.

● Good understanding of testing, monitoring, logging, and production troubleshooting.

● Comfortable using modern AI coding tools.

● Strong English communication skills.

Nice to Have

● NestJS experience.

● Kafka Streams or other stream-processing experience.

● AI/LLM application development experience.

● IoT or real-time data processing experience.

● Experience with fitness, healthcare, wearable, or telemetry data.

● Experience integrating platforms such as Strava, Garmin, Apple Health, or Google Fit.

What We're Looking For

We want a senior engineer who can own features and systems from design through production, rather than someone who only completes assigned tickets.

You should be comfortable working remotely, communicating with an international team, solving problems independently,

and taking responsibility for the quality and reliability of your work.
