Hiring: Infrastructure Engineer

Switch Communications is looking for a hands-on Infrastructure Engineer to manage and maintain our server and datacenter environment. The role focuses on Linux systems, virtualization platforms, backups, and day-to-day infrastructure operations. The incumbent will work closely with the Senior Infrastructure & Network Security Engineer and provide backup support during incidents.

Location: Islamabad

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬

- Manage virtualization platforms (VM provisioning, snapshots, resource allocation, host maintenance)

- Administer Linux and Windows servers including health checks, patching, and performance monitoring

- Own backup systems (job configuration, monitoring, restore testing, and failure escalation)

- Maintain datacenter infrastructure including UPS, cooling, racks, cabling, and physical security

- Perform routine maintenance tasks (log rotation, disk cleanup, certificate updates, service restarts)

- Monitor infrastructure health and handle first-line alert response and escalation

- Support infrastructure changes, site work, and incident response alongside senior engineer

- Maintain server inventory including hardware specs, location, warranty, and lifecycle tracking

- Prepare weekly infrastructure health reports

- Act as backup support for network and firewall-related incidents

𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

- 2–3 years of hands-on Linux administration experience (Ubuntu / CentOS) in production environments

- Experience with Proxmox VE or VMware ESXi (VM provisioning, snapshots, host maintenance)

- Knowledge of backup solutions (Veeam, rsync, or equivalent) including restore procedures

- Understanding of server hardware, RAID, and storage management

- Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Nagios, or similar)

- Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, VLANs, switch ports)

- Bash scripting for automation of routine tasks

- Strong documentation and reporting skills

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐝

- Exposure to firewall administration (FortiGate or pfSense)

- Basic knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Group Policy

- RHCSA or equivalent Linux certification

- Experience in high-availability or multi-site environments

- Familiarity with Ansible or other configuration management tools
