Assistant Manager - Research & Development (R&D)

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and support the development of new confectionery products, formulations, and product innovations.

Conduct product trials, experiments, sensory evaluations, and product improvement activities.

Improve existing products in terms of quality, taste, texture, shelf life, cost, and production efficiency.

Develop, review, and maintain product formulations and Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Prepare and maintain R&D specifications, formulation sheets, trial reports, product standards, and technical documentation.

Coordinate with Production, QA/QC, Procurement, Supply Chain, and Marketing teams for product development and commercialization.

Evaluate raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, and suitable alternatives for quality and cost optimization.

Ensure product formulations and R&D activities comply with applicable international food laws, food safety standards, labeling requirements, and regulatory requirements.

Support scale-up, pilot trials, production trials, and commercialization of successfully developed products.

Review product specifications and formulations against applicable food safety and regulatory requirements.

Work with SAP for R&D-related activities, including material master data, BOM creation/maintenance, formulation-related information, and coordination with relevant departments.

Ensure accuracy and timely updating of BOMs, formulations, specifications, and SAP data.

Conduct market research and monitor international and local confectionery trends, ingredients, technologies, and product innovations.

Support cost optimization initiatives through formulation improvement, ingredient alternatives, and process optimization.

Maintain proper records of R&D projects, trials, approvals, and product development history.

Ensure all R&D activities are carried out in accordance with company policies, food safety requirements, quality standards, and regulatory guidelines.

Candidate Profile:

Bachelor's/Master's degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, or a relevant field.

Relevant experience in Research & Development / Product Development, preferably in the FMCG or Confectionery industry.

Strong knowledge of food ingredients, confectionery formulations, product trials, sensory evaluation, and product development.

Good understanding of international food laws, food safety standards, labeling regulations, and regulatory compliance.

Practical experience in BOM preparation and management.

Working knowledge of SAP, particularly in areas related to materials, BOMs, formulations, or product development, will be preferred.
