Deputy Manager - Mechanical Engineering

Ismail Industries Limited is seeking an experienced and results-driven Deputy Manager - Mechanical Engineering to lead the maintenance, reliability, and start-up of mechanical systems, ensuring safe operations, equipment performance, and alignment with project timelines, budgets, and technical requirements.

 

Location: Karachi

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of all mechanical equipment, including PM checklists and lubrication plans.

- Minimize breakdowns and downtime through root cause analysis, improving MTBF, MTTR, OEE, and equipment availability.

- Own mechanical engineering for construction, installation, commissioning, and start-up of the new plant.

- Supervise contractors and OEM vendors through FAT/SAT, performance trials, and handover.

- Manage utilities (steam boilers, compressed air, chillers, HVAC, cooling towers, water treatment) ensuring energy efficiency.

- Lead the maintenance team, working with Production, Quality, and Safety to ensure safe work practices and statutory compliance.

- Prepare and control maintenance and engineering budgets (OPEX and CAPEX), managing AMC relationships.

- Ensure safe work practices (machine guarding, LOTO, hot work, confined space, working at height) and manage dust explosion risk (ATEX).

- Lead the engineering and maintenance team and coordinate with Production, Quality, Procurement, Stores, and Safety to ensure safe work practices and statutory compliance.

- Support food safety systems and run improvement projects using TPM, 5S, Lean, and Kaizen.

Qualifications & Skills:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; MS / MBA preferred

- 10-15 years of relevant experience, including 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role

- Strong knowledge of milling machinery, pneumatic conveying, material handling, packaging machines, and thermal equipment (boilers, dryers, ovens)

- Familiarity with PLC/automation interfaces, electrical drives, and instrumentation

- Understanding of mechanical drawings, P&IDs, GD&T, and equipment specifications; proficient in CMMS, MS Office, and AutoCAD; SolidWorks is a plus

- Knowledge of predictive maintenance (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis), HACCP, GMP, and ISO 22000/FSSC
